Today, we're excited to debut our brand-new website and our new and improved Mobile Workforce Coalition! We've got all the tools you'll need to let Congress know how important the Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Simplification Act is to you and your organization.
Let us give you a quick tour:
- Learn more about what's wrong. What are we trying to fix? States currently have inconsistent, varying standards and requirements for employees to file personal income tax returns when traveling to a nonresident state for temporary work periods, and for employers to withhold income tax on employees who travel outside of their state of residence for temporary work periods. Did you know that in some states, you might owe nonresident income tax if you travel there for work for only one day? We've put together a handy map to show you the different rules in each state.
- Learn how the Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Simplification Act will help. This legislation provides for a uniform, fair, and easily administered law and helps to ensure that the correct amount of tax is withheld and paid to the states without the undue burden that the current system places on employees and employers. It provides a uniform 30-day threshold before the liability attaches and withholding is required. After 30 days, existing state laws will apply.
- Download ready-to-use, easy-to-share materials to take when you visit your Representative or Senators. They explain the issue, answer common questions, and provide in-depth background information to help demonstrate why this is the best solution to the problem.
- Email, tweet, and call Congressional leaders, right from the website. You simply fill in your contact information, and we do the rest. You can use our pre-made letters and tweets, or add your own personalized message. The more people that reach out Congressional leaders, the better!
You'll also be able to use the site to find us on Twitter and LinkedIn (plus follow our blog) to stay up-to-date on what's happening on the Hill related to Mobile Workforce, in addition to updates on Coalition events and relevant news. And be sure to tweet us using the #mobileworkforce hashtag!
Thanks for helping us protect America's traveling workforce.
